Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes

Minor Football

Our Minor footballers got their campaign off to a start against Naoimh Declain Thoir in a blustery Kilmacthomas on Saturday , against a strong breeze in the first half our lads got off to a bright start with two points from Conor Malone and Dylan Sheridan but from then on Naoimh Declain Thoir piled on the pressure and even with some fine stops by Daniel Kirwan on the goal went into the break leading 2-4 to 2 points.

In the second half with the breeze at our backs we were first to score again with a well taken point from Ferdia Mac Aodhagain but it was to be our last score for a while and the opposition went to to get another brace of goals until another Conor Malone point and a good goal from Evan Curran finished off our scoring with the game ending 4-5 to 1-4 in Naoimh Declain Thoir’s favour .Hard luck to the lads but we can take a lot of positives from the game as we made plenty of chances that on another day could have resulted in scores .Next up is a home tie against Ferrybank in two weeks time .

Under 13 Astro Hurling

Our under 13s played their first match in the Astro 7 a side blitz in Carriganore on Friday night and were the winners in a high scoring game against Passage . team on the night was Jamie Gleeson , Conor Meaney ,Josh Fanning , P.J. Murphy , P.J. Fanning , Peter Yaciuk O  Connor and Peter Nolan.

Under 8 Indoor Blitz

We had two teams playing in the Ballygunner Under 8 Indoor Blitz on Saturday and both teams did very well in their groups playing some fine hurling in the process ,well done to the young lads and keep up the good work in training.

Under 11s and 14s

Our under 11 and 14s played host to Clarinbridge on Sunday in two challenge matches , thanks to Clarinbridge for the games . Panel for the Under 11s was Adam Walsh , Scott Ryan , Ben Regan , Cian Purcell , Sean Doocey , Adam O Connor , P.J. Bolger , John Olyisiy , Jim Yaciuk O Connor , Dylan Butler , Daniel Butler , Evan Mackey , Jack Corcoran , Darragh McGrath , Paul Wall , Jack Sweeney , Jamie Meaney and Niall Geraghty .

Baby Girl

Congratulations to Gareth “Podge”  Power and his wife Gemma on the birth of their their baby daughter Ava on Friday last !

National Hurling League

Waterford got their first points of the campaign this year with a great win against Galway in Walsh Park , involved on the day from Mount Sion were Ian O Regan and Stephen Roche who came on and scored a lovely point .

Last Man Standing

Last Man Standing continued this week with only a few dropping out though quite a lot of players were relying on Liverpool who were given a bit of a fright by Swansea ! Check out the updated table on the website.

Juvenile Flag Day

Our Juvenile club will be holding it’s annual Flag day on the weekend of March 7th, 8th and 9th this year .we are looking for adult volunteers for a few hours on any of the days so if you can help out in any way please contact any member of the committee.

Membership

The annual subscriptions are now due for the 2014 season , fees can be paid behind the bar as usual and need to be sent in as soon as possible, all membership rates are available on the membership page on the club website or you can contact Club Registrar Paul Fanning .

Darts & Cards

Darts and Cards for club members. Come along and join in the fun. Darts takes place every Thursday night with Cards on Friday nights, both starting around 10pm. Great prizes on offer!! All Club Members are welcome.
