Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 3-19
Cappoquin 2-13
The Senior Hurling Championship resumed last weekend and in a must win game Sion travelled to Fraher Field to take on Cappoquin on Saturday evening, an even first half saw both sides exchange points with Sion battling hard in all areas of the pitch and showing a marked improvement on their previous championship outings, Cappoquin raised the first green flag of the game midway through the half and were four points to the good when the industrious Owen Whelan put the ball through to the impressive Martin F’O Neill who duly buried it to the back of the net after running through the opposing defence, that score put Sion in the lead at half time 1-11 to 1-09 . Cappoquin were nothing but resilient in the second half and even after a penalty coolly converted by Austin Gleeson when Sean Ryan was bundled over finally put some light between the teams they battled back and brought it back to two points putting another goal past the onrushing Ian O’Regan, Sion however answered in the best way possible with O’Neill becoming the provider as he set up Stephen Roche to blast through a crowd of Cappoquin players to restore the lead, even though Iggy was needed once again to save from a penalty the result never looked in doubt with Sion, spurred on by Gleeson, driving on to finish well ahead, final score Cnoc Sion 3-19 Cappoquin 2-13 . Scorers – Martin F O’Neill 1-06, Austin Gleeson 1-04, Stephen Roche 1-02, Owen Whelan 0-02, Mikey Daykin 0-02, Jordan Broaders 0-03.Under 8 Tournament
