Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Sunday saw the final round in the group stages of the Senior Hurling Championship as Sion travelled to Leamybrien to take on Tallow, on a perfect day for hurling in the scenic village under the Comeraghs Sion got straight down to business with Martin F O’Neill getting what looked a definite point overruled by the umpire in the first minute, Sion dominated for the next fifteen minutes with O’Neill and Jordan Broaders trading points to give a five point lead before Tallow finally opened their account, following this the men from the border village clawed their way back into the game and capitalised on a mix up in the Sion defence to raise the first green flag on the day and go a point up, just before half time O’Neill pointed to put the sides level going into the break 0-08 to 1-05. Stephen Roche got Sion off the mark in the second half but the signs were ominous that this game was going to the wire, with the wides staring to pile up and an Austin Gleeson penalty hitting the post Sion just couldn’t put the game away and even when Tallow were reduced to fourteen men they battled away and with the last puck of the game their talisman and former county star James Murray found himself in acres of space and he calmly slotted the ball over to draw the game , final score Cnoc Sion 0-14 Tallow 1-11, following this result Sion finished third in group B which means they now face city rivals De la Salle next Sunday in Walsh Park in the quarter final where a big performance is needed if they are to progress any further in this year’s competition.
