Mount Sion GAA Club Notes

Junior Hurling

After the very tight game of the previous week the replay of the Junior B Hurling final against Kilrossanty which went ahead under lights in Fraher Field on Friday last didn’t go to plan for Sion, the first half was a low scoring affair with the County men having the edge going into the break leading 0-09 to 0-04, in the second half the superior fitness of Kilrossanty showed as they kicked on to win the game by a comfortable margin of 1-20 to 0-07, tough luck to the lads on the night but Pappy and his team can be happy with their achievements this year over a long season having won the Eastern Championship playing entertaining hurling in the process.

Juvenile Presentation

Our young hurlers gathered in the club on Saturday last for their annual presentation of medals and awards from their various tournaments and competitions over the year, Under 21 All Ireland winning manager Sean Power was on hand to do the honours along with Club Captain Stephen O’Neill and Club President Phil Fanning, thanks to all our young players and their families for attending and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2017. The Mick Healy award went to Jack Meaney while the following were the Players of the Year in their age groups

We also had a number of players who took part in development squads who were presented with plaques in recognition.

This year’s Annual General Meeting  will take place in the club at 2pm on Sunday 18th December. There will be a lot to discuss on the day and all members and prospective members are cordially invited to attend.

Stephen’s Day Quiz

The annual Stephen’s Day quiz takes place once again in the club starting at 5pm, this is a time honoured tradition for many years and is always well supported, please contact Peter Roche for more details.

Club Gear

Christmas Day Swim

The  Galgeys will be looking to the weather forecast and won’t be looking for a White Christmas this year as they take the plunge with their Christmas morning swim in Tramore Pier in memory of the late Billy Galgey,  proceeds going to the juvenile club and all are welcome to take part, for a sponsorship card or details please contact Paul Galgey on 086 8688422

New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance

The New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner dance take place again this year to welcome in 2017,  with music from Avalon and a three course meal, tickets are available on a first come first serve basis and are also available behind the bar and from Tina, more details will be available nearer the time.

Mount Sion Clubhouse
