Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Junior A Hurling
On a bad night for hurling in Dunhill on Friday night last the Junior A hurlers kept their 100% record with a hard fought win over Tramore, in what was always going to be a low scoring game Gavin Carroll’s accuracy from frees in the conditions was crucial to the outcome, Darren Finn’s goal proved the difference between the sides on the night with the game ending 1-08 to 0-08, Sion’s mix of youth and experience proved valuable with good performances from Barry Ryan, Kenny Stafford , Sean Ryan and Craig Sauvage, next game is in June against Roanmore.Junior B Hurling
Our Junior B team also got off to a winning start in Portlaw on Thursday last, due to retirements and work committments there were a number of changes to the team that won last year’s Eastern Championship, Sion were well worth their lead at the break with the ageless Michael Frisby on free taking duties picking off the points ably assisted by young guns Eric Hoban and Andy Doherty, half time score Cnoc Sion 0-11 Portlaw 1-03, though the home team staged a comeback in the second half the experienced back line held firm and with young Lee Halligan standing in on goal making a number of notable saves Sion held on to win by two points, final score Cnoc Sion 0-17 Portlaw 2-09, next game is against Kilmacthomas in the club on Friday at 7-30.Under 14 Feile
Following their efforts the previous week against De La Salle the Under 14’s played Passage in the Eastern Feile final on Thursday last, in a disappointing night for this young team Passage ran out comprehensive winners to book their place in the County Final, tough luck lads but there is plenty of hurling for this group to come in 2017.Under 9’s
Our Under 9’s played two competitive games against Ballygunner on Wednesday last while in a busy week our white and blue teams played Roanmore and De la salle on Saturday morning, well done to all our boys who are really enjoying playing all their blitzes and are improving all the time.2017 Golf Classic
This year’s Golf Classic takes place on June 2nd in Waterford Golf Club and if the last couple of years are anything to go by it promises to be a great day, please see the poster for details.
Deise Draw
The first Deise draw in the new format for 2017 took place in Ballymacarbary and unfortunately we had no winners on the night, the club has had a very good uptake of tickets this year and tickets are still available for the next draws, please contact club co-ordinator Kenny Stafford for more details.Fixtures
