Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Sargent Cup
Our Seniors made the long journey to Tallow on Sunday last to fulfill the Sargent cup fixture which for 2017 is now a knockout tournament, the home team started brightly and Sion struggled to keep pace as they raced into the lead helped by two first half goals which gave them a commanding lead at the break, half time score Cnoc Sion 0-05 Tallow 2-09, Sion finally woke from their stupor in the second half and started putting points on the board in the process keeping Tallow scoreless for 27 minutes of the half, just when it looked like the unlikiest of comebacks wouldn’t happen Shane Forristal blasted to the back of the net from a 21 yard free to leave the game tied at 2-11 to 1-14 forcing the game into extra time, Tallow took the advantage as Sion tired from their efforts in the second half and another goal sealed the result for them as they ran out winners by 2 point after extra time, final score Cnoc Sion 1-18 Tallow 3-14, best wishes to Martin “Fish” O’Neill who unfortunately broke his arm during the game and we all wish him the best in his recovery.Junior Football
The first Junior football game of the year took place on Friday night last against Erin’s Own and the fans of the large ball were treated to a veritable feast of football as both sides set caution to the wind and played an all out attacking game, in a classic game of two halves Sion were 4-06 to 1-06 ahead at the break and while the Poleberry men came out fighting in the second half they couldn’t catch Sion who proved the old adage that goals win games! Final score Cnoc Sion 5-10 Erin’s Own 2-11, following the match manager Paul Galgey declared himself satisfied with not only the result but the committment shown by the panel of players on the night.Golf Classic
