Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 3-18
Portlaw 0-11
Just one week on from the defeat against Passage which left their hopes of qualifying through to the knockout stages of this year’s Senior Championship on a knife edge a much changed team took to the field to face Portlaw knowing that nothing but a win would do, Sion started well with the returning Austin Gleeson knocking over points before Stephen Roche made no mistake and crashed the ball to the back of the net to put daylight between the teams, Portlaw came back into it and were only denied by a top class save from Ian O’Regan, Sion had a few missed chances and a bad tempered end to the half saw a player from each side going to the line, half time score Cnoc Sion 1-07 Portlaw 0-07, Sion started to pull away in the second half with a number of different players getting on the score board and finished on a flourish with substitute Jordan Broaders staking a claim for a starting place next week scoring 2-01 in the dying minutes of the half , final score Cnoc Sion 3-18 Portlaw 0-11, this result now means everything depends on next week’s final group game against Lismore in Fraher Field . Scorers Austin Gleeson 0-11, Jordan Broaders 2-01, Stephen Roche 1-01, Donal Power 0-02,Mark Hoban 0-01, Evan Curran 0-01, Cian O’Regan 0-01.Junior A Hurling
Cnoc Sion 1-10
Newtown/Ballydurn 2-11
The Junior A Eastern Final took place in Walsh Park on Saturday and while the first half was a tight affair with the sides going in level at the break Ballydurn just edged the second half and their physicality and fitness told at the end when they ran out four point winners on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-10, tough luck to the lads as they had a good season and this result aside many improvements could be seen across the team with players being called into the senior team on their performances at this level.Under 16’s
Cnoc Sion 1-11
Brickey Rangers 0-13
Our Under 16’s are now through to the semi final after this result on Sunday morning in a nail biting finish where they held on to win by the minimum, this group of lads have improved exponentially over the year and their reward is now a semi final place details of which will be posted when available.Under 12’s
Our Under 12’s made the short trip to Carrick on Suir to play in the Craig Walsh memorial tournament on Sunday last, our first game was against Portlaw/Ballyduff where our lads started slowly enough but eventually proving too strong in the end running out comfortable winners, next up were South Tipp finalists Ballylooby where we went in at half time one point down but the lads came out very strong in the second to take the win and qualify for the final against the hosts and holders Carrick Swans, our lads kept their best hurling of the day for the final producing a very strong second half with top notch performances all over the field in particular from Lee Flanagan, Davin Marshall, Cormac Dunphy and Dylan Ryan to take home the Cup running out winners by 8 points. Well done lads and thanks very much to Carrick Swans for the invite to a very well run tournament.Fixtures
