Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 1-14
Lismore 1-21
The final group of the 2017 Senior Championship took place on Sunday when Sion travelled to Fraher Field to take on a revitalised Lismore with places in the knockout stages at stake, Sion started off well enough with Stephen Roche bagging a brace of points but Lismore struck back with a goal which gave them a buffer throughout the half which was extended by seven minutes following a serious injury to the Lismore keeper, half time score Cnoc Sion 0-08 Lismore 1-05, even with the breeze in the second half Sion couldn’t catch the Lismore men whose forward line were on top form and though a late resurgence and a goal from Martin F’O Neill helped make the scoreline somewhat respectable the game was out of Sion’s reach from early in the second half, with the news coming through from Walsh Park that Passage had won this now sets up a quarter final against county kingpins Ballygunner which has been fixed for 4pm on Saturday 7th October. Scorers Stephen Roche 0-08, Martin F’ONeill 1-00, Mark Hoban 0-02 , Mikey Daykin 0-01, Cian O’Regan 0-01, Evan Curran 0-01, Aaron Dempsey 0-01.Minor Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 2-14
De La Salle 0-10
The Minor Hurlers took to a boggy Walsh Park pitch on Saturday last to face De La Salle with a place in the County Final at stake, in the dreadful conditions De La Salle had the better of the first half and only for the efforts of the back line could have gone into the break up more than the three point they had, half time score Cnoc Sion 0-03 De La Salle 0-06, the second half saw a much improved Sion as they slowly put their mark on the game and when Jack Meaney scrambled the ball to the back of the net from the muddy goalmouth there was no looking back, Evan McGrath then made no mistake from the penalty spot to get Sion’s second and a first minor final since 2008 beckoned with no comeback on the cards for DLS, there were jubilant scenes at the final whistle as the game ended on a final scoreline of 2-14 to 0-10 scoring a remarkable 2-11 in a powerhouse second half performance to reach the final, details of the final will be made available as soon as it is arranged.Condolences
On the day the Minors qualified for the County final the sad news reached us of the passing of David Roche, David’s son Jordan plays on the Minor squad and David and his wife Sandra would be well known figures around the club and school, to Sandra, Daryl, Dylan, Jordan and his extended family we offer our deepest sympathies, ar dheis De go raibh a Anam.
