Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Minor Hurling Final
Cnoc Sion 1-12
Ballygunner 2-11
With an unbeaten campaign behind them the Minors went into the County final against Ballygunner with the hopes of the club behind them as they tried to lift the trophy for the first time since 2008, Ballygunner got off to the better start grabbing an early goal to set their stall out, but as he has done throughout the championship Evan McGrath stepped up to the mark dragging Sion back into the game with a goal from a penalty and three points in succession to level at the midpoint of the half, in an even game the sides couldn’t be separated at the break with the score at 1-06 apiece. Following the break both sides traded scores until Ballygunner took advantage of a momentary lapse in the Sion defence and raised the green flag for the second time in the game putting them two points ahead, when Sion failed to convert two penalties the game finally swung in Ballygunner’s favour and even though McGrath pointed at the end it was too little too late and Ballygunner ran out two point winners, though they might be disappointed now this young group and their mentors were a credit to this club and have shown there is a bright future ahead for Cnoc Sion.Scorers Evan McGrath 1-09, Johnny Flynn 0-02, Alan Kirwan 0-01.Under 15 Hurling
Our Under 15’s finished their campaign on Wednesday night last with a brave performance against Abbeyside in the semi final losing out to a well drilled team, this young group of players have also improved greatly over the year and can be proud of their achievements in 2017.Condolences
