Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Minor Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 3-13
Ballygunner 2-15
The second round of the Minor Hurling championship saw the Minors make the visit to McGinn Park Ballygunner against a hotly fancied home side hoping to gain their first points of the campaign, both sides were evenly matched through the first half with Ballygunner just gaining the upper hand when they raised the green flag before the break, half time score Cnoc Sion 0-09 Ballygunner 1-09, the second half was a lively affair with Sion driven on by the industrious Charlie Costello in midfield and Jack Meaney winning the ball in the forwards helping keep the scoreboard ticking over, in a frenetic final few minutes the home side went seven points ahead but to their credit this team never gave up and two goals and points without answer at then end saw them win by a single point, final score Cnoc Sion 3-13 Ballygunner 2-15, fantastic performances in all positions and credit to Pat and his backroom team for all their hard work behind the scenes, next game is at home to Abbeyside on August 1st.Under 12 City League
Cnoc Sion 1-08
Ballygunner 2-03
After some great performances in this year’s City league the Under 12’s played Ballygunner in the final in Walsh Park on Sunday, on a rock hard pitch scores were hard to come by in the first half and the sides went into the break on a scoreline of 0-02 to 0-00 in our favour, in the second half Sion were good value for their lead and were well in control thanks to some strong performances on the pitch before they were hit by a sucker punch of a goal from Ballygunner putting them a point ahead as the game went into injury time, but this team is nothing but resilient and with almost the last puck of the game Evan Flanagan sent the ball flying into the back of the net from a long range free giving a two point lead from which Ballygunner had no time to recover and Mount Sion were the Under 12 City league champions, a well deserved victory and congratulations to all involved from everyone in the club.Junior Hurling
Both Junior Hurling teams were in action this week with the junior B’s taking on Erin’s Own in Williamstown on Thursday night, Sion were looking good for the win until the last minute until the Poleberry outfit equalised with a last minute goal, final score Cnoc sion 2-11 Erin’s Own 2-11, the Junior A’s continued their good run with a one point victory over Ballydurn in Kill on Friday night final score Cnoc Sion 1-15 Ballydurn 1-14.Cul Camps
