Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 2-22
Lismore 1-15
The quarter finals of the Senior Hurling Championship took place on Sunday and Sion travelled to Dungarvan to take on hotly tipped Lismore knowing a big improvement was needed performance wise if they were to progress to the semi finals, right from the whistle the intent was clear as Sion raced into a three point lead before Martin F O’Neill pounced on a loose clearance to rattle the net setting up a seven point lead, Lismore worked their way back in but found Ian O’Regan on the goal in tremendous form as he pulled off a number of astounding saves to frustrate their efforts, frees from the dependable Evan McGrath kept the scoreboard ticking over as they went into the break with a five point lead , half time score Cnoc ion 1-12 Lismore 0-10, the second half continued in much the same vein and when Fish pounced on a poor clearance to get his and Sion’s second of the game the writing was on the wall for Lismore, though they tried to stage a comeback their big guns were thwarted by a solid defence and Sion closed out the game with a number of different scorers getting on the scoresheet as they comfortably ran out winners in their most convincing display of the year, final score Cnoc Sion 2-22 Lismore 1-15, the draw for the semi finals was made later that night and the opponents in four weeks time will be local rivals De La Salle.Team Ian O’Regan, Mikey Daykin, Peter Penkert, PJ Fanning, Luke O’Brien (0-1), Mark Hoban(Ben Flanagan), Stephen Roche (0-01), Charlie Costelloe (Evan Curran 0-02), Martin F. The Junior A’s bowed out of the Championship on Friday last as they failed once again to overcome the challenge of Newtown/Ballydurn at the semi final stage, Sion had the better of the first half going into the lead at half time but a better performance from Newtown saw them claw back the lead and they ran out easy winners to progress to another final at Sion’s expense.Camogie
