Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Fixtures
The draw was made during the week for our group games at the start of the 2023 Senior Hurling Championship, our first game against Fourmilewater takes place on Friday July 28th in Carrickbeg with a 7-30pm throw-in, the next game is the following Saturday August 5th in Fraher Field with Tallow providing the opposition, throw in 5-30pm, we have a bye for the following week, best of luck to the lads.Tom Kennedy
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Tom Kennedy last week, just a few months after the death of his beloved wife Rena who he cared for throughout her long illness. Tom, or Tomas O’Cinneide as he was also well known, was a nephew of the great John Keane and while he was not noted for his exploits on the field of play his contribution to the club as an officer, mentor and supporter throughout his life was immense. Tom served his club as treasurer and executive member for many years and throughout the development of the Social Centre his advice and experience from his ESB days was always valued. A lover of the Arts, Tom was a prominent member of The Theatre Royal Society and well known as an actor in his younger days in amateur dramatic productions in the Municipal Theatre. A Mount Sion man to the core, whether it was in the service of club or school, Tom Kennedy will be remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him and enjoyed his company. To Tom’s children Patrick, Ciaran, Lorcan, Mairead, Emer,Siobhan and Sean, his sister Kathleen, grandchildren and extended family we extend the heartfelt sympathy of all in the Mount Sion club and community.
