Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Under 14 Hurling
The Under 14’s played Ballygunner in the Bord Na nOg County Final in Walsh Park on Saturday last, an even first half saw the sides go in level at the break with everything to play for in the second half, after the restart though Ballygunner broke Sion’s hearts with a quick goal and even though they battled hard it was to prove too hard to come back and Ballygunner ran out winners in the end, tough luck to the lads who gave their all on the day, thanks to everyone involved with the team and to Bord Na nOg for the smooth running of the league this year.Intermediate Football
It was a thriller in Dunhill on Sunday as extra time was needed for Sion to reach the Eastern final after a titanic struggle against Kill ended all square at 1-09 apiece, it took a last minute goal to settle it for the Monastery men and secure their final place, well done to all involved, details of the final to be confirmed shortly.Junior C Football
It was goals galore on Saturday in the club as we welcomed Gaultier in the fourth round of the Junior ‘C’ Football Championship.
Not for the first time in this campaign Josh Fanning opened the scoring for the home side, this was followed by green flags by Ivan, Big Darmody and Wuzzy.
Sion now had a strong lead however the away side kept in the game with some great scores, midfield talisman Josh finished the first half scoring with a fine goal.
In the second half points from Nicky O’Toole and Ned Power stretched Sion’s lead but these were followed by two quick fire Gaultier goals, the Barony men were now well on top with wave after wave of attack putting serious pressure on the back, it got to the stage that Pugs Power was even calling for ‘marks’ in his own full back line, the Monastery were hanging on by a thread before late goals by Louie Halligan and Evan Mackey finally put the game out of reach for the away side.
Well done to both sides on a very sporting game, this was helped in no small way by the refereeing of Alan Fitzgerald(DLS).
Today completes our group games, we now play the semi final in the next couple of weeks.
Until then it’s back to the training ground where the real hard work is done!
