Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Mount Sion Tournament
Last Saturday we held our own Under 9 Tournament which featured teams from Naomh Eanna (Wexford), Ballygunner, Abbeyside, Kilmacud Crokes, and Thurles Og. Even though the weather was poor it didn’t dampen a very competitive tournament. Our lads reached the Plate Final where we faced local rivals Ballygunner. It proved to be the most entertaining of the finals played. Nothing separated both sides at half time with 1 goal each. With time running out and our defence under huge pressure from the Ballygunner forwards, we nudged our noses in front with a point. Our defence held strong as we won the game by the narrowest of margins. Well done lads on the great performance in the final. In the Shield Final we had Kilmacud and Abbeyside, which Abbeyside won convincingly. In the Main Final, Thurles Óg played Naomh Eanna where the team from Tipperary won it out.First of all thanks to the teams for travelling and taking part and making the day such a great success. Also a special thanks to all who helped out on the day, including the ladies committee for feeding and watering the teams, our co-ordinator, referees and the Fifer and anyone else who helped out on the day.
Ladies Football Championship
The Ladies played their next round of the championship against Na Deise in our own grounds on Sunday evening. Again these girls put in a super performance and we won on a score line of Mount Sion 4-7 to Na Deise 1-4. Well done girls.Minor Championship
The minors played the fourth round of the championship in Mount Sion last Tuesday against Butlerstown Gaels. We put in a disappointing performance on the night. Final score Mount Sion 1-2 to Butlerstown 0-16. Our next game is next Monday night against Ballygunner at 7pm in Mount Sion.County Teams
Best of luck to all the Waterford teams playing over the weekend including all our own players. We wish especially Ryan Flanagan and Mikey Daykin who are both on the Tony Forristal and Sony Walsh Teams respectively the very best of luck. The Late Eamonn Flavin
Eamonn captained the first successful Under 16 team in the club in 1960. He also went on to win a Minor Hurling Championship in 1962. He was also heavily involved with the Theatre Royal and is a past President of the Past Pupils Union in Mount Sion School. We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Flavin family. Ar dheis dé go raibh sé.
