Mount Sion GAA Club News
Under 21 Football
The first championship of the year kicked off with a solid win in dreadful conditions against near rivals De La Salle in Mount Sion. This has being the first time in a number of years that we have entered the A division in a football competition and the lads proved that they are worthy of A division football. De La Salle chose to play with a gale force-wind in the first half and opened the scoring with 2 points before Stephen Roche broke through the De La Salle defence to crash the ball to the net and give Sion the lead. However the lead didn’t last long and the visitors got a goal and 3 points to lead at half time by 1-5 to 1-2.
With a strong breeze blowing from the clubhouse down the field, Mount Sion capitalised from some finely taken points from Owen Whelan now operating at midfield and Martin O’Neill on the wing. Ian Galgey popped up for a goal in the last quarter to confirm the win and give Mount Sion a place in the Eastern Final. Well done to all involved and best of luck in the final! Details of the fixture will be published once it becomes available.
