Senior League (Final)
A reverse of fortune for our hurlers as Lismore secured a one point win from that of the championship after we led for long stretches of the game. Both teams were without the services of their county players as they prepare for their clash with Tipperary. Sion opened the scoring with 4 unanswered points with Lismore striking for goal after 15 minutes. Points from Sean Ryan, Jamie O’Meara and Ian Galgey widened the lead to 4 points. Lismore finished the half 2 points up after another well taken Lismore goal and 3 unanswered points. O’Meara hit for Sion’s first goal of the game to give them the lead. Martin F. O’Neill & Mark Hoban both hit for goals within 2 minutes to give Sion a 7 point lead and finish the scoring for Sion. Lismore put the pressure on and scored 1-4 in the remaining normal time to level proceedings. An injury time point gave Lismore the win and they retained the Park Hotel Senior League Cup. Final score 3-9 to 3-10.
Intermediate Championship
The intermediate hurlers failed to win their last game in the group stages of the championship against Dunhill last Tuesday night. Choosing to play uphill in the first half Mount Sion created some great chances up front with points from Jamie O’Meara, Dan Kelly and Dermot O’Byrne keeping their noses in front. A goal by Richie Murphy increased their lead. Dunhill hit back with several unanswered points and a goal just before half time to lead at the break. After the break both sides went point for point with Dunhill keeping the lead. Dunhill hit for 2 more goals before Richie Murphy got Sion’s second goal and with 5 minutes remaining Barry Browne got the third to leave Sion trailing by 2 points. Dunhill finished the scoring with 3 points to leave the score 3-10 to 3-15.
Minor Championship
The minors grounded out a hard earned draw after trailing by 2 points at half time against Butlerstown Gaels last Wednesday night. In the dying moments a late point by Martin F. O’Neill earned Mount Sion a share of the points to leave the score 1-16 to 2-13. The next championship game is against Dungravan in Dungravan next Wednesday with a 7pm throw in.
