Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Junior Hurling
The Junior hurlers were invited to take on Sliabh gCua from Touraneena last Sunday evening. The host club annually holds a memorial shield in the memory of Ned Burke. The lads put in a great performance and came out on top on a score-line of Mount Sion 4-14 to Sliabh gCua 2-16. Well done lads and thanks to the Sliabh gCua club for the invitation. We are back in action in the championship against Ballygunner this Thursday at 7:30pm in Mount Sion. Best of luck lads.Minor

The last group game of the league took place against Lismore in Lismore on a miserable Thursday evening. Ken McGrath opened the scoring for Sion with Stephen Roche adding our second. Lismore replied with 3 points of their own but Ross “Martin” O’Keeffe pulled one back for Sion. Sion gathered a lead through Stephen Roche, Michael Frisby, Ken McGrath and Sean Ryan. Lismore finished out the opening half with 3 points with Sean Ryan breaking their stride and Lismore adding another 3 points to lead at half time by 3 points. The injured Kenny Stafford was substituted at half time with Ken McGrath now taking over at centre back and really began to make his mark on the game. However, Lismore increased their lead immediately after the restart. But Sean Ryan was on target, with Michael Frisby now taking over on frees and converting 2 to bring Sion back into the game. Lismore increased their lead to 2 points but the same two men pointed for Sion. Both sides went point for point before Sion gathered a bit of momentum and dominated the exchanges through Stephen Roche, Martin O’Keeffe, Brian Cusack and Dermot O’Byrne getting the winner to leave the score Mount Sion 0-20 to Lismore 0-19.Under 16
We made the short trip to St. Saviours last Monday night when we played the host club in the opening round of the Gaelic Football Championship. We led for long periods of the game but were unlucky in the end when we lost out by 1 point. Darren Grey scored a very good individual goal during the game where he gathered the ball on his own 45 and took off down the field sidestepping the opposition and finishing to the net from the 13 yard line. The lads next game is against Affane in Mount Sion at 7pm on Monday 18th July.Under 15
The Under 15s played their second game of their championship against Roanmore in Mount Sion on Wednesday evening. Roanmore dominated the early exchanges but Ryan Flanagan was on target with both a point and a goal to open Sion’s account. Aidan Power also got his name on the score-sheet in the first half with a finely taken point. The second half was Sion’s better half. We started well with Darren Gray finding the net. But Roanmore replied with a point. Eric Curran pointed with a free before Evan Curran also found the net from a placed ball. Roanmore increased their lead by 2 points but Evan Curran closed the scoring with a point to leave the score Mount Sion 3-5 to Roanmore 5-6.Under 13
The Under 13s got their championship underway on Saturday when they took on Ballygunner in Mount Sion. We put in a great effort but were just that little bit unlucky in the end. The next game we play is next Saturday at 4:30pm in Mount Sion against local rivals De La Salle. Best of luck lads.Mum & Me
