Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
County Junior Football Final
It was our second Junior Final this year, but this time it was the turn of the Junior Footballers who faced Sliabh gCua, the western champions in Fraher Field last Saturday afternoon. Conditions were not ideal as expected at this time of the year with the heavy ground and driving rain. It was a disappointing performance overall as our lads didn’t play to their full potential. Over the hour of football Michael Frisby scored two points and Ian Galgey got Sion’s other score, a goal. Full credit must go to Sliabh gCua and we wish them the best next year as they enter Intermediate Football grade for 2012. Final score Mount Sion 1-2 to Sliabh gCua 2-11.
Thanks to Junior Football Manager Ian “Bomb” Power and his selectors Smiley Ryan and Nicholas Mackey. Also thanks to all the fans that travelled up to Fraher Field to cheer on the lads, your support is always so much appreciated! The Late Jim O’Meara
Jim first played with the club in 1940 and went on to win a number of County Senior Hurling medals with the club. He is also grandfather to current Mount Sion Senior Hurler Jamie O’Meara and one of our Camogie Players Aisling O’Meara. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to his sons Declan, Brendan, Pat, Jim and Kevin, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family. Ar Dheis Dé go Raibh Sé.
