Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
School Indoor Hurling
Mount Sion school indoor hurling team (3rd and 4th classes) qualified for the Eastern Final following a great afternoon’s hurling in Kilbarry Sports centre on Tuesday last. They finished joint top with St Declan’s after a series of four games. The boys performed superbly in all games. Caelin Wall was a revelation in goal and kept the team in the hunt in several games. PJ Fanning, when moved back after losing the first game, shored up this area brilliantly with his reading of the game. Peter Nolan and Daniel Murphy, in their first competitive games for the school marked themselves out as future stars. Conor Meaney again showed evidence of his rapid improvement. Cian O’Grady was superb throughout in several positions and the non stop work of Kieran Hanrahan showed why he is getting better and better with every game. Conor Freeman’s return to the school colours showed that he will be a big addition throughout the year with excellent performances in every game. Timi Sobowale dominated proceedings from midfield, and despite feeling unwell, turned in brilliant performances in all games. Up front, the power and accuracy of Samuel Mathe proved a handful for all defences and he emerged as our top scorer for the day.Well done to all on the panel but they will have to improve yet again to challenge for honours in the Eastern Final.
