Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Minor Championship
Next Friday night we open our Minor Hurling campaign when we take on De La Salle in Mount Sion at 7:30pm. Best of luck lads.Under 16 Eastern
Our Philip Egan Wholesale Meats sponsored Under 16s were in Eastern Championship action last Wednesday evening against Sacred Heart. A strong start with points from Cian O’Regan, Darren Gray and Sion newcomer Ferdia MacAodhagáin, but Sacred Heart drew level with their only goal of the game. Two points from Evan Curran and points from O’Regan, Michael Daykin and Ferdia pushed Sion into a further lead. O’Regan and the inner city club traded points. Sion led by 0-12 to 1-4 at half time. In the second half O’Regan continued his fine form from frees. Eric Hoban hit his first score with Ferdia adding his third. Sacred Heart opened their second half account with two points in quick succession. Sion got two just as quick goals from Michael Daykin and Michael Flynn. O’Regan and Ferdia combined extended Sion’s lead. A well taken goal from O’Regan gave the Sacred Heart keeper no chance. Two more points from the stick of O’Regan and a point from Curran finished out a well deserved Sion victory. Final score Mount Sion 3-22 to Sacred Heart 1-9. This set up a clash on Sunday with Ballygunner in Mount Sion. Sion produced some nice hurling early on in the first half with Eric Hoban opening the score with a beautiful strike off his left hand side from the sideline. Sion had three goal chances with the first hitting the crossbar, and the remaining two been saved by the Gunner’s keeper. The sides were level at half time, five points each. A strong opening period of dominance by the Ballygunner side gave Sion too much work to do near the end. Sion did hit the net however with Ferdia MacAodhagáin blasting it past the Gunner’s keeper. Final score Mount Sion 1-10 to Ballygunner 2-18.Larry Quinn Skills
