Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Under 10
The Under 10s travelled to Clonmel on Saturday to compete in a tournament with 16 clubs from all over the country looking to take home some silverware. In the group stages we beat O’Loughlin Gaels, Middleton and lost by a point with a last second goal against Kilmacud. These were some great performances considering we have been on holidays the last three weeks and had no training done. We beat Graigue-Ballycallan in the semi final and ended up meeting Middleton in the final, a massive second half performance in the final won it for us. Panel for the day: Jack Byrne, Daniel Murphy, Adam O’Connor, Peter Nolan, Ben Frisby, Jamie Gleeson, Timi Sobowale, Craig O’Neill, Jordan, Sean Doocey, Stephen Finn, Cormac O’Danza, Dylan Butler and captained by fullback Kieran Hanrahan. Big thanks to the parents for the lifts and bringing the boys at such short notice. A well deserved victory for the lads as they were very unlucky earlier in the summer coming out the wrong side of two finals beaten by one point in the Ballyduff and Newtownshandrum tournaments.Weekend Ahead
Next Weekend is a busy one firstly the Waterford Tony Forristal team will be playing all their group games in the club. All fixtures for the Sonny Walsh and Tony Forristal are up on our website under the News dropdown menu. I will update all the scores on this page to keep ye all updated on how all the groups are doing. http://mountsiongaa.ie/news/tony-forristal-sonny-walsh/ Waterford’s first game is at 11:50am against Laois. Then on Sunday, our Senior Hurlers are back in Championship action against Roanmore. It’s a big game and the winners will take a quarter final place. Throw in at 3:30pm in Walsh Park on Sunday 2nd September. (Please note the time, as it was previously down for an earlier time). Best of luck lads!County Teams
Best of luck to Ben Flanagan who will represent the club on the Tony Forristal team. On the Waterford Under 15 team we have one player, Mikey Daykin and Under 16 team we have two representatives who will travel to Tipperary, Cian O’Regan and William Ormond. Best of luck to all our lads and to all the Waterford teams in action over the weekend.Minor Championship
Our Minors took on Naomh Brid in round five of the Minor Hurling Championship last Monday evening in the club. Sion had a great start and ran in two goals in the first twenty minutes and led by this margin at half time. But the second half was a much different story with Naomh Brid turning in an excellent second half display to win it out by four points. Next game up is Roanmore.Under 13s
Our Under 13s had an impressive win over Ballygunner in the Championship last Sunday evening. Sion dominated throughout with Timichi opening the scoring. We did fall behind when Ballygunner got a goal against the run of play. Two successful Johnnie Flynn sixty-fives drew the game level. Louie Halligan and another Flynn sixty-five got Sion further ahead. Edward Cullen bagged Sion’s first goal when a Timichi shot was stopped and Cullen was first to react to rattle the net. A super Alan Kirwan catch and clearance from his own full-back line to set up the next attack, with Evan McGrath passing to Ivan Sinnott and he also raised a green flag! Sion led by seven points at half time. Eoghan Browne was on target within two minutes of the restart with a well taken point. Ballygunner hit three points but substitute Jordan Halpin sealed a fine Sion win with a goal. Well done lads, great team performance under pressure and ye kept your composure and your heads when every decision went against ye.Under 14s
Under 14s played two games over the week and there were a bit of mixed fortune. In their game on Monday they had a super win over Cois Bhride on a score line of Cnoc Síon 6-8 to Cois Bhride 2-7 down in Tallow. Then on Thursday they took on Abbeyside on a miserable evening in the club and lost out on a score line of Cnoc Síon 0-7 to Abbeyside 2-7.Last Man Standing
