Finishing off a great week in the club was the meeting for the third time within a seven day period of Cnoc Sion and Roanmore, this time in the Junior Hurling. Roanmore had their necks in front but this was soon cancelled out when Daniel Kelly knocked over a sixty-five. Lee Thornton and Noelie Power from Roanmore traded scores with Barry Browne raising a white flag during the course of the first half. Barry was unlucky for a couple of goal chances and was denied by the Roanmore keeper. But the experienced Eoin Fanning was quickly on to the rebound of one of these shots and Sion had the first green flag of the game. Barry and Eoin again were on target with a point each with Evan Sheridan also chipping in with a point to leave the valuable goal between the sides at half time.
A repeat of the opening half saw Roanmore hit the first score with Kelly regaining the three point lead. A high ball in from substitute Mark Flanagan to Barry Browne, saw the goal poacher finally hit the net. Flanagan also got himself into the action when he pointed. Sion were awarded a penalty which was saved and cleared. Roanmore cut the deficit back with two points. Browne and Kelly pointing for Sion before the introduction of Brian Hennessey. One ball, one goal for the Chick. Sion edging out a great game with three goals to spare. Well done lads. Final score Cnoc Sion 3-10 to Roanmore 0-10. Eastern Final will be in a few weeks time with us facing the winners of Ballygunner and Passage, this game is to be played next weekend.Minor Championship
Round seven of the Minor Hurling Championship took place on Wednesday evening with our lads facing Roanmore in the club. Our boys worked hard over the hours hurling and we were the far superior side on the scoreboard at full time. Well done lads, a great team performance! Next up is the re-fixture of Round Four, where the referee failed to turn up. This will take place in Dungarvan on Monday 10th September at 6:15pm v Dungarvan. Best of luck lads.Under 16
On Friday evening we had our Under 16s in action when they played Sacred Heart in Mount Sion. Our lads produced some great hurling and skill and were ten points clear at half time. This was reduced to six points just after the break with Sacred Heart hitting four unanswered points. Cian O’Regan kept the Sion pressure on with a successful sixty five and the lively Darren Gray pointing for Sion. O’Regan and Ferdia both added to their personal totals with Sacred Heart managing to break the rhythm and find their range with two points and a goal. But Sion didn’t panic and two more pointed O’Regan frees saw Sion book their place in the knock-out stage of the championship. Well done lads, keep up the effort in training. Final score Cnoc Sion 3-13 to Sacred Heart 1-11. Quarter final next Sunday at 11:30am v Cappoquin, no venue yet. Will confirm during the week.Under 14
In the Under 14 Championship on Monday evening in the club we faced Cappoquin. Our lads set the early pace to the game and ran in two goals both coming from the stick of Ben Flanagan. In the second half others came to the fore with Louie Halligan raising a green flag with Ben Flanagan grabbing Sion’s other two goals of the half. Great work is being done at this level and its really showing with some great battling performances over the championship. Final score Cnoc Sion 5-5 to Cappoquin 1-5. Still a few games to go, with the re-fixture of the De La Salle game.Under 13
The Under 13s had a terrific win over Portlaw to book themselves a place in the Final next Saturday. This game is set for next Saturday. Will confirm the fixture via the website, Facebook etc during the week.
