Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Club AGM
The AGM of Cnoc Síon took place last Saturday evening and it was great to see so many interested people in attendance. Outgoing Chairman Sean O’Dwyer, opened by asking all to join in a minutes silence for our late Life President Frankie Walsh. The secretary’s report evoked discussion on all areas and it ran over the hour mark. The treasurer reported on the financial position of the club, and praised the whole clubs efforts in the recent successful Christmas Raffle. He suggested that other fundraising activities that will be run in 2013 need to be supported in the same manner. In his final address as Chairman, Sean O’Dwyer, recalled his fond memories of our late Life President Frankie Walsh, including a tale of Frankie and Sean’s trip to Clare and the way many others held Frankie in such high esteem.
In the election of officers, we had only one change with Sean stepping down as Chairman after many years of service in all roles on the Executive. I would like to wish Sean all the best in his retirement. The following were elected: Chairman: Peter Walsh, Vice Chairman: Kevin Ryan, Secretary: Seamus Cleere, Treasurer: Tom Power, Registrar/Insurance Officer: Paul Fanning, PRO: Owen Sauvage, Development Officer: Anthony Kirwan, Fundraising Officer: Josie Evans, Entertainment/Ladies Committee: Tina Gleeson, and the four committee members, Phil Fanning, Jimmy Meaney, Roy McGrath and Michael Flanagan. The Field Director position is the only other change and will now be taken up under the Development Officer position. We are indebted to Davy Carroll for his years of service as Field Director, which span more than thirty two years. There was never a job too big or small for Davy. I wish you all the best in his retirement. The following Managers have been voted in for the coming year: Senior/Intermediate: Anthony Kirwan, Junior Hurling: Michael Flanagan, Junior Football: John Walsh, Under 21: Paraic Fanning and Minor: Pat Kelly. The man who has being selected to lead the Senior team in 2013 is Kenny Stafford and Vice-Captain is Sean Ryan. Under 21 Captain will be Craig Sauvage and Stephen O’Neill will be Vice-Captain. The hurler of year may just have played his first year with the club but fitted in perfectly with some great performances in the championship, well done to John O’Leary. Young player of year had an excellent year in which he played minor for Waterford. Well done to Austin Gleeson. Finally, our next big event will be on Easter Sunday night. We will have Buck Taylor playing in the club. Tickets go on sale next week from the bar. There are a limited number of tickets so buy early.
That concluded the business of the meeting.
