Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
St. Patrick’s Day
First of all, may I wish all our members, supporters and readers a Happy Paddy’s Day. Our Under 5s-11s did us all proud as they all walked in the parade along with their mentors.
Mount Sion 5 Mile Road Race
I should have mentioned last week the first man back with his dog and pram was Paul Galgey in a speedy 30 minutes flat! Watch out Rio, Paul could be on his way for the 2016 Olympics!!Senior Tournament
Our first outing for the Senior Hurlers took place last Wednesday evening in St. Molleran’s Tournament against Tipperary side, Mullinahone. Our lads flew out of the traps with Gavin Carroll opening the scoring followed closely by Martin F. O’Neill from the placed ball and two Richard Roche points. Michael Gaffney also got in on the scoring. Mullinahone got their game going with three points, two of these coming from their sharp shooter Eoin Kelly. Eoin McGrath pointed from the middle of the field, as Ian Galgey raised another Sion white flag. Mullinahone goaled in the twenty second minute after some poor defending. Gaffney pointed as Mullinahone’s Eoin Kelly got into his stride with two further points. Half time score Cnoc Síon 0-8 to Mullinahone 1-6.
In the second half, Mullinahone stretched their lead with another point. Sion pulled one back with Martin F. O’Neill trading a number of points with the opposition. In the final two minutes, Sion were awarded a free on the 21 metre line. Five points separated the sides, so we had no option to push on and look from a goal. Unfortunately our effort skimmed wide and time ran out as we looked to bridge the gap. Final score Cnoc Síon 0-12 to Mullinahone 1-14.Fixtures
