Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Junior Football Championship
After a fine win last week, our Junior Footballers continued their good form with another solid win over Erins Own in Poleberry last Friday evening. Sion settled into the game with a point from Stephen Roche. The home side successfully converted a forty-five to open their account. Two points from play from Ian Galgey and a goal from Stephen Roche gave Sion an early cushion. Erins Own replied with a point but after three consecutive chances of another three pointer, Noel Flynn finally found the net! Michael Grant and Flynn both pointed to give Sion a 2-5 to 0-3 lead at half time.
After a number of misses from the placed ball in the opening half, Ian Galgey hit the target just moments into the half. Erins Own replied with Galgey again finding his form from the dead ball. A well placed pass from the Ian “Bomb” Power to Flynn ended in another point for the Monastery Men. Michael Grant got his second point with Erin’s Own pulling back a point. Another two points from Galgey gave Sion a twelve point advantage as the game headed into the final three minutes. The home side were awarded a penalty and successful converted to cut the lead to 9 points. But all was not over, two late points from Stephen Roche and Austin Gleeson from distance ended the game, Cnoc Síon 2-13 to 1-5. Well done lads, another solid performance. Next Saturday we face Fenor in Mount Sion at 7pm. All support welcome.
