Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Next Weekend
A big weekend ahead for the club with the County Senior Hurling Semi-Final against Passage. Throw in at 2pm on Sunday 29th September in Walsh Park. Best of luck to all involved!
Junior Football
Our Junior Footballers are through to the Eastern Final after a four point win over Ferrybank in Walsh Park. Ferrybank hit an early lead with four points. It took some thirteen minutes for Sion to register their first score with Daniel Kelly pointing on the run, from a tight angle. Sion began to come into the game, with Noel Flynn pointing and Jordan Broaders hitting the net. Ferrybank replied with another point but an excellent run from Anthony Kirwan and passing to Daniel Kelly, who was on target again, this time raising a green flag. Three more points from Ferrybank saw the teams go in level at the break.
Minor, Darren Gray was first to get in on the second half scoring with a fine point. Jordan Broaders, found Noel Flynn who made no mistake kicking over the bar. Ferrybank hit back with their only score of the second half with a point, but Broaders and Niall O’Sullivan ensured Sion kept their noses in front with a point each. The experienced man in front of goal Barry Browne, squandered a goal scoring chance as his shot hit the side netting. With Sion’s defence holding strong thanks to the footballing brilliance of Ken McGrath, Anthony Kirwan and Fionn O’Brien. Daniel Kelly finished off the scoring with the final point of the game. Final score, Cnoc Síon 2-7 to Ferrybank 0-9. We now face Kill on Saturday 5th October. Details of fixture not to hand at this stage. Well done to all the lads who togged out last weekend.
Co. Under 13 Final
The Under 13s played the County Final against Abbeyside last Saturday morning in Walsh Park. Abbeyside proved to be a big side and ran out comfortable winners in the end. Well done to all our Under 13s who are making great progress and have claimed some silver-wear this year, taking home the Eastern Championship. Keep listening to your coaches and putting in all the hard work in training. Well done lads, ye did the club and your families proud.
Minor Hurling
Our Minor hurlers exit the championship after a defeat to Roanmore on Sunday morning. Our lads put in a mighty effort but just came up a little short in the end. They were just unlucky in a number of games and with some luck, results could have went our way. A big effort was put in by both management and players alike and we can all see the progress they have made from competing in B competition at Under 16 to Minor A Competition. I’d like to mention minor manager, Pat Kelly who will be jetting off to America for the year in the coming weeks. We wish him all the best! Also to Eoin Fanning, David Thornton, Ian Sheridan and Christopher Ryan who all put in sterling work, to have the lads in tip top condition. Well done lads.
