Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Junior Football Final
Last Saturday afternoon the Footballers were back in action and took on Kill in Walsh Park in the Eastern Final. Our lads started well with captain Robert Bresnan pointing from a free just two minutes in. Kill responded in kind but Sion drove on with Stephen Roche, Ian Power and Jordan Broaders all pointing. Austin Gleeson’s shot landed in the small square with Richard Roche reaching highest and fisting to the net! Kill pulled a point back but Ian Power slotted home after some great work up the line from the Sion defence. The same man again, proved his weight in gold with a superb top corner shot to send Sion in at the break leading by 3-6 to 0-3.
The second half was all one way traffic with Kill putting in a tremendous effort, pulling the game back with one point separating the sides as the time ran into the final few minutes of play. Sion were on their knees but a late point from Robert Bresnan pushed Sion over the line and on to the County Final, which will be held as the curtain raiser to the Senior Football Co. Final. Well done lads, and best of luck in the County Final.

Mickey “Browley” Walsh
The death occurred this week of Mickey ‘Browley’ Walsh in WRH after a long illness. Mickey hailed from Slievrue and had the unique distinction of winning senior championships in Kilkenny and Waterford as well as winning an All Ireland medal on the Kilkenny team that beat Waterford in the 1957 Final. He also played on the Kilkenny team beaten by Waterford in the ’59 All Ireland Final.
Mickey married Noline Mulcahy, a sister of Mount Sion legend Billy Mulcahy, in the early sixties and, working in The Foundry and living in Waterford, he transferred to Mount Sion where he gave great service for over ten years, winning four senior county medals and in that time he lined out for Waterford on many occasions. He won a Munster championship medal with Waterford in 1963 and went on as a sub in the All Ireland Final against his native Kilkenny.
His last game for the club was in the Junior County Final against Ballysaggart in 1972. His sons Liam and Michael played juvenile and minor with the club in the seventies.
Condolences to his wife Noline and family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
