Mount Sion GAA Club Notes

Sargent Cup

Mount Sion 0-11

Lismore 0-8

Our Seniors opened their Sargent Cup campaign with a hard fought win over Lismore in Lismore on Saturday last. It was played in dreadful conditions with Sion only managing two points in the first half from man for all seasons  Tony Browne and young Aaron Coady . At the break we trailed by three points.
The teams were level seven minutes into the second half with Captain Michael Gaffney, Gavin Carroll and Tony Browne all raising white flags in the opening exchanges. Both sides traded points but it was Sion who were coming to terms with the muddy underfoot conditions. Again Tony Browne pointed from a free and this was followed up by Gaffney and Martin F. O’Neill. Coming into the final five minutes of the game and with  only two points in it Lismore pointed with a long range effort from Brendan Landers , but Sion true to their tradition found that bit more in the tank and finished out the game with Richard Roche sending over the two insurance points to leave the score Cnoc Síon 0-11 to Lismore 0-8. Well done lads, next up is the St. Molleran’s Tournament game against Cloughbawn at 7:45pm on Wednesday night.

Under 8s

Well done to the Under 8s who played at half time in the Waterford v Dublin game in Walsh park , our young lads were split into two teams for the day .
The team in white played against Clonea and the panel was Adam Regan ,  Jared O Keeffe , Adam Cummins , Sam O Byrne- Russell , Joseph Obasogie , Sean Reilly, Tommy Delaney , Nicky Maher and Evan Flanagan

The blue team played against Butlerstown and the panel was Dillon Ryan, Alex Walsh , Dean Cullen , Mark O Connor , Nathan Emanuel Obe, Sean Flynn , Ben Hennessy , Tommy Walsh and Taigh Corcoran.

Both teams played brilliantly and did the club proud winning both their games!


Under 10s

Our Under 10s finished their Friday night astro blitzes this week with a good result against Tramore in Carriganore , well done lads and best of luck in the Championship in the coming weeks , Panel on the night was Scott Ryan , Hugh Flanagan , Jamie Meaney , Davin Marshall , Cormac Dunphy , Ben Rellis , Shane Ryan , Aaron Barry , Conor Walsh , Lee Flanagan , Evan Mackey and Jake Marks .

Baby Girl

Congratulations to Jess Kehoe and partner Leah who welcomed baby daughter Zara into the world during the week !

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Gary Cunningham and Brian Sinnott who are patients in WRH at the moment .

Easter Camp

Baile O Bhaile are running an Easter camp in the club  starting on Monday April 13 for 3 to 8 year olds , please see leaflet for details or contact Michelle at 086 8847947

Deise Draw

The first Deise draw for 2014 will take place on April 25th. This is one month later than previous years and will run until December 2014.. Tickets will be available from Josie Evans or from the bar. Please contact Josie Evans (087-0686700) to join and more importantly to make sure you are in with a chance to scoop the top prize of €10,000!!! . Tickets are €10 per month for nine months. You can either pay up front or per month by leaving the money behind the bar. 70% of the money raised will go directly back to Mount Sion. Best of luck to all our ticketholders!
