Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Ken McGrath All Star Challenge
The Ken McGrath All Star Challenge took place on Friday last in front of a huge crowd in Walsh Park, this event was organised to help Ken as he recovers from his recent heart surgery. All Stars and All Ireland winners from far and near came to play for Munster managed by Davy Fitzgerald and Leinster managed by Eddie Keher and Noel Skehan, the whole night was a massive success and this is due in no small part to all the hard work put in over the last few weeks by the committee set up to organise the event. Following the match the All Ireland Preview night in the club was a huge success as MC Kieran O Connor grilled some of the countries best known GAA personalities and our own Jim Greene on the outcomes of this year’s Championships, Ken himself then spoke a few words and made some presentations and was visibly moved when he was presented with a fantastic painting of himself which was done by young Padraig MacGraith of An Rinn, following this three of our top local bands Avalon, Paddy’s Pride and the Barflys entertained the big crowd until the early hours, thanks to everyone who helped out on the night, its on occasions like this that we realise what a special club Mount Sion is with members both young and old helping out in whatever way they could to make it such a special night for Ken and his family.Intermediate Hurling
On Thursday last the Intermediates travelled to Kill to take on Dunhill, in a scrappy first half both sides traded points before Dunhill hit the back of the net to go into the break 1-06 to 0-6 ahead. Dunhill raised the green flag again almost immediately after the restart, from then on it was an uphill battle for Sion and they weren’t able to pull back the deficit to leave the score at 3-12 to 0-12 in Dunhill’s favour.Under 16
Our Under 16s got their league off to a start on Tuesday last with a visit away to Dungarvan, it took the lads a little while to get into the game and despite a very good score of 4-11 with goals coming from Johnny Flynn and Evan McGrath they were unfortunate to come up against a very good Dungarvan team who scored 31 points. Unlucky lads, on another night that score would have won the match, next game is home to Roanmore in two weeks time.Urban Hurling Skills
Well done to PJ Murphy and Josh Fanning who qualified for the Larry Quinn final in the Urban Skills Competion during the week.Kelloggs Cul Camps

The Minor Championship gets underway this week with the long journey to Tallow where they face Cois Bride in the first round, the lads have been preparing well in the last few weeks with challenge matches and the James Stephens tournament on Saturday last where they played two competitive games against Glen Rovers of Cork and Ballyhale of Kilkenny, best of luck to the players and their mentors.Waterford Seniors
