Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Under 10 Tournament
The Under 10s made the journey up to Naas early on Saturday morning for their annual tournament. In the first group game they played Maynooth which we started very strongly with great scores from all over the field winning 6-06 to 1-01, next up were Kilmacud Crokes and after a tight first half Sion pulled away in the second with 5 goals coming from Davin Marshall, Lee Flanagan and Adam Regan along with some great defending from Dylan Ryan we ran out winners 7- 06 to 2-6. In our third and final group game we played home favourites Naas and once again the goal hungry Sion boys continued their fabulous form running out winners 6-05 to 3 -02 in the process qualifying for the the final against a very strong Lucan Sarsfields from Dublin. Again we started fast and gained a 6 point lead at half time but Sarsfields came right back at us in the second half but the Sion lads dug deep and won the final 2-05 to 2-02 . All the coaches are so proud of this young bunch of lads with many U10 again next year . The panel for the day was Davin Marshall, Lee Flanagan, Conor Walsh, Cormac Dunphy, Jack Cowman, Jake Marks, Jack Barrett, Killian Dundan, Dylan Ryan, Ross Byrne, Alex Walsh, Jared O Keeffe, Adam Regan, Adam Cummins and Emmanuel Adebayo.Junior Hurling
The Juniors continued their good form of late in the Championship with a comfortable victory against Roanmore on Friday last in Walsh Park, it was a case of youth and experience combining with Darren Grey and Ian “Bomb” Power being stand out scorers for Sion along with Brian Hammond whose long range point was one of the scores of the game, well done to Pappy and his team for the good results of late and hopefully it’ll continue on to they next game..Under 14 Feile
It’s all systems go for the Under 14’s as they prepare for the long journey to Donegal on Friday for the 2015 Feile na nGael tournament. We are being hosted by St. Eunans GAA Club in Letterkenny and as people can imagine a trip like this costs money and we would like to give special thanks to our sponsors ERS Newgate St Waterford, PSI Ltd, Rockett Engineering and M.W. Murphy who have kindly made a donation towards the cost involved, keep an eye on social media and the website over the weekend for updates on all the matches, meanwhile on the playing front the boys had another good victory on Thursday last as they took on Sacred Heart in the club and despite going behind early came back to win convincingly, best of luck to all the boys as they represent their club and county next weekend.Intermediate Hurling
Following recent poor results the Intermediates took to the field on Sunday last against Dunhill looking for their first win of this year’s campaign, Sion started brightly with Cian O Regan registering the first score of the game with a well taken solo point, Dunhill responded well and 10 minutes into the half keeper Owen “Savo” Sauvage was called on to make a save to deny the Dunhill attackers, there was nothing he could do about their next attempt though and as the Anne Valley men threatened to race ahead it was Sion who ended the half better with points from O Regan frees and Anthony Kirwan first pointing and then setting up Dermot O Byrne who in turn became provider for young Ben Flanagan to finish the half 0-09 to 1-08 in Dunhilll’s favour.Sion started the second half well with Michael Frisby setting up Kirwan who made no mistake from close range to raise the green flag, points from the dangerous O Byrne and O Regan put Sion ahead before Dunhill upped a gear and scored 2-04 without reply to comfortably run out winners on a scoreline of 3-17 to 1-15, there were many positives to be had from this game not least the quality of Sion’s scores and if they keep up the work rate the results will come.
Under 11’s
The Under 11 City League continued in the club on Friday last against De La Salle and although Sion lost by 2 points on the night we controlled most of the game and only for the heroics of the opposition keeper the result could easily have gone the other way, tough luck lads keep up the good work and the results will come.Condolences
Sincere condolences to two of our young hurlers Brandon Collins and Sean Martin and their families on the death of their grandmother Anne Kennedy last week, ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam.
