Mount Sion GAA Club Notes

Junior Football

The Junior footballers were back in action on Friday night last against Ferrybank in the club trying for their first win of the campaign, Sion netted twice in the first half the pick of which was a Ricky Freeman effort from Owen Whelan’s precision placed ball which he gratefully accepted, points from Richie Roche helped keep it a two point game at the break, in the second half though the visitors gained control and as Sion’s legs tired they put the game well out of reach to run out comfortable winners , tough luck to these lads who must be commended for turning up and giving their all to help keep football going in the club.

Minor Hurling

The Minors travelled to Lismore on Tuesday night last with a depleted squad and despite the many absentees put up a credible performance against the hosts just losing out on a scoreline of 0-22 to 2-12, there is no game until Wednesday week when they take on Dungarvan in the club with hopefully a full compliment of players.

Deise Draw

July’s Deise Draw took place in BallyMacarbary on Friday night last and unfortunately we had no winners.This is one of the main fundraisers for the club and we would encourage as many members and their families as possible to participate, as well as helping your club you are also in a great draw with many good prizes on offer. For information please contact our Club Co-ordinator Josie Evans (087) 068 6700.

Kellogg’s Cul Camp

The Kellogg’s Cul Camp took place this week and as usual it was a great success with a large number of youngsters attending, thanks to everyone who took part and to the organisers who helped put it all together.

Achieve Your Dreams

Bank of Ireland Lisduggan are holding a Youth event this Wednesday the 3rd of August between 3 & 4 pm  .  Austin Gleeson will be there to meet his young fans for autographs and photos etc,  there will also be spot prizes and goodie bags given out and if anyone wanted to open a youth saver account they will be entered into a draw to win a signed Waterford Jersey .

Under 21 Munster Final

What a memorable night in Walsh Park on Wednesday as the Waterford Under 21’s won their first Munster title in 22 years, helped by an incredible man of the match performance from our own Austin Gleeson and spurred on from the line Sean “Skower” Power it was a special night for all involved.

New Trustee

Following the recent sad passing of Seamus Power recently the club held an E.G.M. to to elect a new trustee in his place, Jim Greene was unanimously elected as our new trustee and we wish Jim all the best in his new role.
