Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling League
Having had a run of good results in the Senior League/Sargent Cup the Seniors qualified for the semi final on Friday night last where they travelled to Fraher Field to renew rivalries with Dungarvan, on a bad night for hurling with heavy showers and swirling winds scores were hard to come by with Martin F O’Neill and Stephen Roche getting Sion’s points in the first half , hard work from Jordan Broaders earned Sion a penalty which the Dungarvan keeper did well to save from Ian O’Regan, half time score Dungarvan 0-08 Mount Sion 0-05. Sion started brightly in the second half but were just unable to convert their possession into scores while Dungarvan slowly moved ahead making the most of the chances that came their way to just edge the game on a scoreline of 0-16 to 0-13, tough luck on the night but there were many positives that can be taken into the Championship game against Cappoquin on Saturday night.
Intermediate Hurling
Our Intermediates took on Erin’s Own on Thursday evening last and despite their best efforts on the night were no match for the Poleberry club, this has been another tough campaign for all involved and thanks to all the players who have answered the call to make sure we can field a team at this grade.Minor Hurling
Our Minor hurlers on the back of their first win of the campaign against Dungarvan the previous week travelled to Gracedieu on Tuesday last to face local rivals De La Salle, in a high scoring first half the home side had the advantage going in at the break 3-10 to 2-08, the second half was a tight affair with De La Salle looking like they had the game in the bag before Ivan Sinnott equalised just on the final whistle, unfortunately in added time they tacked on two points to just edge the game leaving Sion frustrated once again, next up on Monday night is a big game against Ballygunner in Ballygunner. All Ireland Under 21’s
Following the disappointment of the previous week with the Seniors the Waterford Under 21’s eased into their first All Ireland final in 24 years following a comfortable win against Antrim, well done to Austin and Sean and best wishes in the final against Galway.Tony Forristal Tournament
