Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 0-11
Ballygunner 1-18
It was semi final day in the Senior County Championship in Walsh Park on Sunday last where Sion were pitted against old rivals and red hot favourites Ballygunner, from the start Sion struggled to keep up with the champions as they raced into the lead and though they pulled back some points Ballygunner went into the break with a commanding lead. Sion improved somewhat after the break with points coming from a number of players but the gap was too big to close and Ballygunner ran out clear winners on a scoreline of 1-18 to 0-11 to secure their place in next week’s final. Though they will be disappointed with this result Ken and the lads can be justifiably proud of their achievements this year after with a young team and will no doubt be looking forward to the 2017 campaign.Book Launch
There was a great attendance in the Tower Hotel for the launch of Ken McGrath’s autobiography “Hand on Heart” on Thursday night last, the esteem in which Ken is held in the hurling community was evident in the number of players and coaches from other counties who travelled to be there on the night, it was a busy weekend for Ken also as he was signing the book in Waterford and Dungarvan, the book is a cracking read and is available in all good bookshops now.Under 10’s
Though the juvenile hurling calendar for the year is nearly over the Under 10’s were invited to Thurles on Saturday last to take part in a blitz, we played 3 games against GarrySpillane (Limerick), Monaleen (Limerick) and Ballincolig Cork ,this was a great experience for our lads to get to play teams other than the local oppositions and a great day’s hurling was had by all. The panel on the day was Dylan Ryan, Emmanuel Adebayo, Ben Hennesey, Sam Byrne Russell, Ross Byrne, Tommy Walsh, Jack Kirwan, Mark O ‘Connor, Alex Walsh, Adam Regan, Adam Cummins, Sean Reilly, Killian Dundan and Evan Flanagan.
