Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Hurler of the Year
Congratulations to Austin Gleeson on his awesome achievements at the All Stars where he scooped the major honours of Young Player and Player of the Year as well as winning his first All Star, Austin is a fantastic role model and is a credit to his family and everyone who was involved in his formative years at the club where his potential was spotted at a young age, despite his gruelling inter county schedule Austin is always available to the club for our younger players and we at Mount Sion are very proud to have him as one of our own.Junior Hurling
Despite not having played competitively since the summer the Juniors had two matches this week in the space of four days as they sought to capture the Eastern B Championship, on Tuesday night they dispatched Portlaw under the lights at Carriganore to book a place against De La Salle in the same venue on Saturday, on a bitterly cold day Sion got off to the perfect start with Darren Finn on target with two unanswered points before DLS drew two back, things were looking good when Stephen “Chucky” Coady smashed to the back of the net to put daylight between the teams, Sion drew further ahead and looked to be going into the break with a healthy lead before DLS finished up the half with four points to bring the score at the break to a two point game, half time score Cnoc Sion 1-08 DLS 1-06. Darren Finn was once more off the mark in the second half with first a point then a scrambled goal to put Sion in a commanding position, but DLS put it up to them and dominated for a long period in this half, after a break due to an injury to Paddy McGrath the referee added four minutes of injury time where Sion upped a gear and scored three unanswered points to win the game and a first Junior Championship in five years, following a gracious acceptance speech from captain Shane Flynn the lads retired to the club house for a well deserved celebration before they get back to training for the County final in a couple of weeks time.Stewards Course
