Mount Sion GAA Club Notes
Senior Hurling Championship
Cnoc Sion 1-19
Clonea 1-13
The Seniors opened their account on a pristine Walsh Park pitch with a win against Clonea on Sunday last, a slow start to the game saw the sides level at the water break before some excellent points from Austin Gleeson and Martin F O’Neill put daylight between the sides to give an eight point lead at the break, halftime score Cnoc Sion 0-12 Clonea 0-04, Sion kept the pressure on in the second half and were still in control up to the first water break when Clonea scored 1-4 in a row to draw the game level and ask some serious questions of this team, Sion rallied though and points from Martin O’Neill and Evan McGrath with Stephen Roche contributing a point and a last gasp goal won the match for the Monastery men in their new Pinergy sponsored jerseys, some good displays all round the pitch especially under pressure will please the manager and selectors, well done also on their Senior competitive debuts to Jamie Gleeson, Ben Frisby and Sean Glynn. Scorers Austin Gleeson 0-08 , Martin F. O’Neill 0-03 , Evan McGrath 0-04, Martin O’Neill 0-02, Jamie Gleeson 0-01, Stephen Roche 1-01.Junior A Hurling
Cnoc Sion 2-14
Michael MacCraith 0-19
The Junior A Hurlers kept their 100% record alive in Fenor on Friday night edging out Tramore by a single point in a troller in tough conditions for hurling, Sion started the better of the two teams and went ahead of the seaside outfit early on with an Ian Galgey goal consolidating their lead going into the break , half time score Cnoc Sion 1-10 Tramore 0-08, the highly fancied Tramore came out after the break and started eating into the lead as conditions worsened underfoot but this team is nothing but resilient and a Ben Frisby goal was enough to see Sion through by the barest of margins , final score Cnoc Sion 2-14 Tramore 0-19.Junior B Hurling
Cnoc Sion 2-16
St Mollerans 0-16
The Junior B’s travelled to Carrickbeg on Thursday night last expecting a tough encounter with Mollerans and they weren’t disappointed, having been under pressure in the first half and going two points down at the water break they turned the game around helped by a massive 80 yard point from Paul “Poochy” Browne and a man of the match display from Cian O’Grady, next up is De La Salle next Sunday morning.Under 15 Hurling
Cnoc Sion 5-10
Ferrybank 2-08
Cnoc Sion 3-14
Michael MacCraith 1-05
The Under 15’s had an excellent couple of results during the week against Ferrybank in the club and Michael MacCraith in Tramore, three wins out of three for this young squad is a massive boost and credit must go to themselves and their coaching team, they face Roanmore in Cleaboy on Tuesday night and a big support would be appreciated.Last Man Standing
Congratulations to John Prendergast who was the winner of this years Last Man Standing, thanks to everyone who took part this year making it a very successful fundraiser for the club, huge thanks also to Owen for all the hard work he put in getting all the names and teams in every week. We hope to run the competition again when the Premier League resumes next season (hopefully without a three month break )!Condolences
The club offers it’s deepest sympathies to the family of the late Michael “Monchie” Kiely who sadly passed away this week, Monchie’s sons Michael and Paul played with the club and Monchie himself was a keen follower of the club over the years, ar Dheis De go rabid a anam.

Deise Draw
The 2020 Deise Draw is now scheduled to start on August 26th and we hope all our members will sign up once more as this year especially the revenue stream for the club will be much needed. We have been also advised that there will still be the standard six draws. Prize money hopefully won’t be affected but may need to slightly adjusted if numbers are a lot lower than last year.Development
The Dressing room building revamp is continuing following the break due to Covid, driveway to be tarmacced while the astro turf on the goals of the main pitch are complete. We would ask those that have not yet paid the annual membership of €150 which includes entry in to the Deise Draw to do so please.
We would ask as many members as possible to join the Development Donation scheme, at this current time our only revenue is the scheme and membership. Anyone wishing to pay membership or join the Donation Scheme please contact any committee member.
