Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Senior League
The fourth round of the Senior League took place last Sunday in Páirc Pádraig O’Fainin where our opponents were Dunhill. With no county players available due to next Sunday’s crunch clash with Clare, Sion fielded a team made up of eight Intermediates. The first score of the afternoon came just two minutes in when Austin Gleeson picked out the unmarked Stephen Roche, who stuck home a well taken goal. Gleeson pointed with Dunhill replying in the fifth minute. Again Gleeson pointed from a free and Owen Whelan fired over from the middle of the park. Both Roche and Gleeson pointed two more points. Dunhill landed a pointed free. Sean Ryan got into the action knocking over a point right in front of the goal. For Dunhill their star player Eamonn Murphy showed some of that star quality down the left hand wing as he glided over a point off the stick. Dunhill again pointed. Gleeson pointed with Ryan closing out the half with his second point. Half time score Mount Sion 1-9 to Dunhill 0-4.
The experienced Anthony Kirwan was in flying form in the second half sticking over his first score just on two minutes. Dunhill capitalized on an error in the Sion defence and cracked home a goal. Dunhill had the wind in their sails and hit two further points. But a Cusack point followed by a Kirwan point settled Sion once again. Dunhill replied with Kirwan doing the same for Sion. Fifteen minutes into the second half and Sion were awarded a twenty-one yard free, with which Gleeson easily found the net. Whelan and Dunhill exchanged points with Cusack also finding his range. Whelan and Kirwan finished out the scoring with a point each. Final score Mount Sion 2-18 to Dunhill 1-9. We’re back in championship action on 22nd June against Tallow in Fraher Field.Minor Hurler’s Quiz
