Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Minor Championship
Our minor hurlers got their championship off to a poor start with a heavy loss to De La Salle in Pairc Padraig O’Fainin last Monday night. It was the visitors that got off to the brighter start with a pointed free however Sion replied swiftly through an Austin Gleeson free moments later. Mid way through the first half the game was turned on its head as a mix up in Sion’s defence allowed De La Salle to register the first of their three goals. Both sides had opportunities to lead at half time however it was the visitors that took advantage of these and lead by four points at the break. Sion were the first out of the blocks in the second half and outscored their opponents by three points to two to leave only a goal between the sides. Once more though the visitors showed their ability and registered their second goal of the game. A misplaced puck out allowed De La Salle to score their third goal of the game and truly finished off the game as a contest. However, the lads effort never faltered and through their persistence they registered a late goal. Final score Cnoc Síon 1-7 to De La Salle 3-9. This Wednesday we travel to Lismore to take on St. Carthages in the second round at 7:30pm.Birthday Girl

Best wishes to Paul Browne who will be out of action with a broken foot for a few months. Paul injured himself in our Junior Championship win over Dunhill last Monday night. Great to see Paul up and around on Saturday watching our Senior’s play.Junior Football
In the fourth round of the Junior Football Championship, Sion took on Naomh Pól in their own back garden in Lisduggan. Sion played the better football through-out with a number of lads standing out including Niall O’Sullivan, Daniel Kelly and Kevin Kelly. Sion led from the start with Dan Kelly crediting Sion’s account with the first score of the game. A further two points from midfielder Niall O’Sullivan set Sion on their way with Sion missing a number of clear cut goal chances early on. Kelly got another two with ex Mount Sion player Kevin Cheasty opening the scoring for the home side with a point. Newly married Eoin Swift was left out to play and got his first score of the game. A Dan Kelly goal gave Sion a flattering eight point lead at half time. After the break an early cross into the box was headed goal wards by Michael Gaffney who forced a save from the keeper. Another two points from O’Sullivan breaking through the middle of the Naomh Pól’s defence edged Sion further into the lead. Kevin Kelly pointed with Naomh Pól getting their second score of the day. This was followed quickly by another from “The Parish”. Bomb Power kicked over with Gaffney hitting the crossbar midway through the half. Kevin Kelly pointed again and Naomh Pól replied. Sion finished out the game with Kelly and O’Sullivan both raising white flags. Final score Cnoc Síon 1-13 to Naomh Pól 0-6. Well done lads, a knock-out place has been guaranteed with one game left on 4th August against Erins Own in Poleberry.Junior Hurling
We travelled to Dunhill last Monday night to play the eight round of the championship. It was a poor performance overall by our lads but credit to Dunhill who played some nice hurling particularly in the first half. Barry Browne signalled his return to Junior Hurling after his break away to train for the Viking Marathon with a fine point. Sion hit the net in the opening half with two Ricky Freeman goals and in the second half Dan Kelly was on target late on in the game to seal a win for the Monastery side. Final score Cnoc Síon 3-12 to Dunhill 1-10. Next up is Ballygunner in Mount Sion on Friday 27th July at 7:30pm.Juvenile Camogie
