Last Wednesday we went to Ballygunner for the third round of the Minor Hurling Championship. Ballygunner opened the scoring on the third minute with a pointed free and was followed quickly by another free. Sion’s Darren Finn was first on to the break just outside the Gunner’s twenty-one yard line, he turned and headed for goal and made no mistake! Sion took the lead! Ballygunner levelled up with another free and point. Gleeson pulled one back with a point with our opponents again punishing the indiscipline by our backs. Evan Curran found space and got a point back for Sion. The home side finished out the first half with a strong display. Half time score Cnoc Síon 1-3 to Ballygunner 0-12. A better start was needed in the second half and that was the response with Austin Gleeson leading the way with two points. Darren Finn made a difficult angle for himself but dissected the posts with ease. Curran added his second score of the night. Ballygunner again enjoyed dominance from the placed ball with all their remaining scores coming from frees. Darren Finn got Sion a point when he could have looked to take advantage of a goal opportunity. Austin Gleeson scored two further points, one coming from a penalty. Darren Gray added Sion’s last point to leave just three between the teams at full time!! Final score Cnoc Síon 1-12 to Ballygunner 0-18. Again were steadily improving and next up is Dungarvan on Wednesday 8th August!Deise Draw
This month must have been the best we’ve had in the Deise Draw! With Chris Fitzek scooping the top prize of €10,000!! We had three other winners which included Síle Mead (€500), Darren Ryan (€250) and Mickey O’Regan (€250). Well done to all our winners. Next month’s Draw will take place on 31st August. Our already qualified Junior Hurlers took on Ballygunner in our own pitch last Friday night. It was a truly disappointing display, as Ballygunner cruised to a 1-9 to 4-17 win to also book their place in the Semi-Finals. Next Sunday we are heading to Touraneena to play St. Mary’s in the Bob Keane Memorial Cup. A bus is leaving at 1pm from the club, with the game starting at 3pm. Anyone interested in coming text Savo or Michael Flanagan with you name. Bus will be back around 11pm! €10 for the bus. Best of luck lads!Kellogg’s GAA Cul Camp
Last week our Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp took place in Mount Sion. We had a big crowd this year with seventy-five boys and girls all enjoying the coaching. We were fortunate with the weather with Wednesday to Friday being some of the best days of the summer to date. On Thursday the man of the match from the Munster Final Kevin Moran paid a visit to meet the kids. Thanks to all the coaches and to the Camp Co-ordinator for their work through-out the week.Fixtures
