Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Sargent Cup League Semi-Final
The Semi-Final of the Sargent Cup League took place last Friday night against De La Salle in Walsh Park. Anthony Kirwan got the opening score within the first minute of the start. A direct reply by De La Salle levelled up matters. Michael Frisby and Ian Power settled Sion with two more points. Lee Hayes replied for the opposition with Anthony Kirwan again finding his range. Niall O’Sullivan and Richard Roche both raised white flags. De La Salle replied once again. Michael Power flicked the ball over as big brother Ian also pointed. De La Salle hit two more scores, but Sion led by two points at the break.
The Cleaboy side hit two points of the half to draw level. Power accurately pointed a free closely followed by Jordan Broaders with a point. De La Salle hit their purple patch and shot five points in a row. Substitute Martin F. O’Neill pointed as did Gavin Carroll with two points. De La Salle now pulled one ahead but Martin F. O’Neill levelled the game with time slowly reaching the end of injury time. But a last gasp strike from Ian Power from the sideline gave Sion a one point win. Well done lads, good battling performance. Final score Cnoc Síon 0-15 to De La Salle 0-14. We will now face Abbeyside in the Final. Fixture TBC.
Junior Hurling Championship
Our Junior Hurlers suffered a loss in the ninth round of the championship last Thursday night away to Ballygunner. We put in a poor performance with Ballygunner deservingly running out comfortable winners. Final score Cnoc Síon 3-9 to Ballygunner 2-17. Next up is Clonea in Mount Sion on 26th July.

It was a disappointing Saturday as Waterford exit the Championship, nearly having overcome the All Ireland Champions Kilkenny after a thriller in Semple Stadium. Well done to Tony, Iggy and Martin (We wish Martin a speedy recovery after picking up a serious injury during the game). The Minors were in action on Sunday in the Munster Final. After leading for most of the game, Limerick edged back to level the game up and send the game to a replay. The date of the replay is Tuesday 23rd July, venue TBC. We wish Austin Gleeson and Sean Power all the best. Due to this Minor re-fixture Round two of the local championship is off. Round three will take place on Thursday 25th July.Deise Draw
