Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Junior Football Championship
We played our close rivals Roanmore in the latest round of the Junior Football Championship. Robert Breslin opened the scoring for Sion with Michael Frisby on target from a free and play. Kenny Stafford and the Dan “Goat” Kelly also were on target before Kenny Stafford lobbed the keeper to get the game’s first goal. Roanmore hit back with an excellent strike which gave Sion keeper Ian Sheridan no chance. Stephen Roche also finished to the net and with substitute Pat Kelly adding a point Sion led at half time by 7 points. Start from the restart gaffer Ian “Bomb” Power led by example when he “powered” past the Roanmore defence to blast the ball to the net to extend Sion’s lead. Roanmore successfully converted a 45 and added a point minutes later. Pat Kelly got his second point with Roanmore cancelling it out with a point of their own. Big man Ross O’Keeffe got his name on the score-sheet with Michael Frisby on target again with a free. Roanmore gathered a bit of momentum and added a point before they got their second goal beating Ian Sheridan in the Sion goal. The Sky-Blues slotted over two further points but Sion were awarded a penalty on a foot-block on Kenny Stafford. The gaffer Ian Power braved the pressure and with ease grabbed his second goal of the game. Roanmore closed out their account with 2 points but a final goal by Dan Kelly finished off an entertaining game. Final score Mount Sion 5-9 to Roanmore 2-10. Well done lads, great performance.Junior Hurling Championship
The Junior hurlers were back in championship mode when they took on Ballygunner in Mount Sion last Thursday evening.
