Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Under 15 Championship
Our Under 15s took on Tramore in the Championship on Tuesday night after it was moved from last Saturday. It was a game where both sides enjoyed dominance on the score board and both teams hit 2 goals in the opening half but Sion finished the game out with the help from Cian O’Regan’s long range frees a point from Darren Gray and a Ryan Flanagan goal. Final score Mount Sion 4-10 to Tramore 4-7. These lads also played Passage in the championship on Saturday afternoon. From what I hear it was one of their best performances this year as they overcame their opponents on a scoreline of Mount Sion 3-12 to Passage 2-3. Well done to the lads and management, great to get a win let’s keep the momentum going in the next games.Under 16 Championship
We were treated to a feast of goals last Monday night when the under 16s played the second round of the football championship against Affane. Our lads scored no more than 7 goals in an hours football. Junior Football Manager Ian “Bomb” Power was in attendance to see the up and coming football talent and I hear he was very impressed. Well done lads. Final score Mount Sion 7-5 to Affane 1-5.The Late Dick Durand
Dick served on the development committee of the club at the time of the building the centre which opened at Christmas 1973. He was one of the main fundraisers and looked after the playing gear and hurleys for up to twenty years. He later got involved with the county teams looking after the playing gear and did a lot of work at Walsh Park.
From the club we would like to express our deepest sympathy to his wife May, Sons, Daughters, Brothers Grand-Children, Great Grandchildren and his extended family. Ar dheis dé go raibh sé.
Camogie
Our adult Camogie team took on Gaultier in a challenge game last Monday evening in Ballygunner. Even though we were missing a few girls, we put in a great performance all over the field with Marie Therese O’Neill opening Sion’s account and Amy O’Sullivan, Katie Barrett and Joanne King all hitting the net in the second half. Kaleigh Sutton hit two sweet points to finish the scoring and leave the score-line Mount Sion 3-3 to Gaultier 1-4. Well done girls, now keep up the effort in training.
County Teams
Well done to Shane Forristal on his championship debut for the Waterford minors and also to Stephen O’Neill, when the Waterford Minors overcame Kilkenny in Walsh Park last Saturday night. On to the Semi-Finals for these bunch of lads and we wish them all the best. Also well done to Ryan Flanagan who has been chosen to represent Waterford on the Tony Forristal team and Mikey Daykin has been selected to play on the Sony Walsh team. Well done to the two lads.
