Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Eastern Junior Hurling Championship Final
Last Saturday our Junior Hurlers put their crown on the line against Ballygunner in Walsh Park. It was the Gunners who got off to a quick start with two points. Ricky Freeman shot over after a great run down the sideline. This was cancelled out by another score from the opposition from another silly Sion puck-out but Barry Browne was accurate from the dead ball to keep the sides within touching distance. Score for score the sides went with Browne and Daniel Kelly doing the scoring for Síon. The sides were brought level when a sideline in from Paul Browne on the bank side of Walsh Park with Kelly supplying the finishing touch. But the Gunners went in three points up when a free on the twenty one yard line was stopped and a waiting forward sneaked in for a goal. After the short break, Paul Browne made the deficit three points from a free. Ballygunner hit two more points with the other Browne also good from the placed ball. Kelly collected a ball from wing and raised another white flag. Ben Walsh got in on the scoring action and pointed. The introduction of Joey Sinnott paid dividends as he got Síon just three behind. Ricky made that two as the game approached the last minute of normal time. Barry Browne was gifted a great chance in front of goal to maybe wrap up the game but non the less great work in the Ballygunner defence, kept their lead. Two injury time scores from the Gunners insured they dethroned the reigning champions. Final score Cnoc Síon 1-12 to Ballygunner 1-16. Hard luck lads, better team won on the day. Thanks to Michael Flanagan, Brian Flannery, Peter Roche, Brian Hennessey and all that contributed to the team since early February.Juvenile Camogie
The Under 8s and 10s took part in a blitz last Saturday morning in Roanmore, Gracedieu. The girls have certainly improved over the last six months and showed all they have learned in this short time.
