Mount Sion Gaa Club Notes
Under 16 Championship
The first championship game of the 2013 calendar kicked off with an excellent win over St. Saviours last Saturday morning. A first half scoring blitz paved an early path to securing our first two points on the table. Ben Flanagan shot Sion into the lead with a point followed by Edward Cullen and another Flanagan point. A long range effort by Mikey Daykin floated in over the defence and our first of seven green flags were raised. Flanagan’s attempt also hit the net with Michael Flynn also getting in on the goal action. The lively Kaylem Kennedy found his range with Flanagan again on the scoring sheet with a point on 19 minutes. Saviour’s opened their scoring with a well taken free but Dylan “Lar” Sheridan got Sion’s fourth goal of the half. Saviours hit back with two more points as Sion went in at the half, happy with their first half display.
After the break, wing back Conor Quinn found young Flanagan who set up Sheridan who flicked the ball over to kick start Sion’s second half scoring. Daykin pointed from a sixty-five but Saviour’s replied with a point of their own. Michael Flynn, dodged and weaved in around the Saviour’s defence and slotted over for another score. The introduction of Louie Halligan paid dividend almost immediately, as he rounded his man and lobbed the keeper. Michael Flynn, dusted off his scoring with a final goal before been substituted for a knock he picked up. Saviour’s never say die attitude was always a threat and they pounced with two goals and two points in quick succession. Sheridan finished out the game scoring a goal. Final score Cnoc Síon 7-10 to St. Saviours 2-6. Well done lads, good team performance. Keep up the hard work in training. Next up is Brickey Rangers in Mount Sion on Sunday 24th March at 4:30pm.
